We all know how important resilience is, but it is difficult for children to develop it on their own.
Signs that your child lacks resilience are subtle: they may come home crying about a test they did badly in, give up easily on a puzzle, blame others instead of taking responsibility when they fail or throw a tantrum when things don’t go their way.
Resilience is important because challenges and setbacks are part and parcel of life — we can’t avoid having problems, and it is how we respond to setbacks that matters.
We all want our children to have a positive attitude and growth mindset, and not be afraid of failure.
To get there, we as parents have a crucial role to play. If we are over-protective or a “helicopter parent”, we are robbing them of opportunities to grow. While our children are still young, we need to equip ourselves with the proper methods to guide our children to keep persevering and learn to overcome challenges, which will see them through the rest of their lives.
In Build Resilience, we’ll cover:
- 5 powerful strategies to build resilience
- Understanding your child’s perspective and why they give up easily
- How to set age-appropriate daily tasks to build up your child’s resilience
- Negative phrases to avoid and how to praise your child correctly
- Giving your child real learning opportunities and managing your own expectations
- Phrases to say to normalise failure and cultivate a growth mindset
- Crucial mindset changes to be a supportive parent
After completing this module, you will have the tools to guide your child towards having a “can-do” attitude and be a confident and self-motivated learner.
